Why paper plants?

The best way to appreciate flowering plants is, of course, to observe them growing in their native habitat. However, this is not always possible. Think of flowers that are seldom seen due to scarcity, inaccessible habitat or short blooming period. Imagine a flowerpot of a rare specimen on the bedside table of someone with limited mobility. Picture a paper Venus Flytrap being passed amongst a group of youngsters at summer camp – and they are allowed to touch the trap without fear of killing the plant. Organizations conducting outreach to promote native plants benefit from being able to display a replica in full flower.

The overall objective of Woodsong Botanicals is to educate and promote appreciation for the beauty and intricacy of flowering plants.
To date, Woodsong Botanicals focuses largely on flowering plants native to the southeastern United States. But that will soon change as we begin to conduct field visits to new locations and work with botanically oriented organizations in other regions.
